  • 1914-

The organization of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia, that had begun with a single diocese with only few parishes, was complete by 1914. Four Dioceses had been established with the prospect of a fifth. The body having the authority over the setting of the Dioceses, diocesan boundaries, and the election of the Metropolitan is the Provincial Synod. The Synod meets regularly every third year not being the year in which there is a regular meeting of General Synod. The time and place are to be decided by the Metropolitan in consultation with the Prolocutor. The reports of the meetings, as adopted starting with the first session (February 18th, 1914, Victoria, B.C.) are recorded in the Journal of the Proceedings of the Ecclesiastical Province of B.C. The matters discussed include the change of the existing boundaries of Dioceses, the appointment of various Committees, reports of these Committees, amendments and revisions to the Constitution and Canons of the Provincial Synod, matters relating to religious education in the church, financial reports, funding issues.

  • 1905-

The history of Holy Cross Church dates back to 1903 when it started its mission to the Japanese community in Vancouver, B.C. In 1905, a mission called “Holy Cross” was established at 430 Cordova Street in Vancouver, B.C. In 1942 the Japanese communities of BC were forcibly relocated to internment camps in the interior of BC until 1946. During this time, the buildings of Holy Cross were sold by the Diocese of New Westminster. In 1955 another denomination gave a property located at 849 East 11th Avenue in Vancouver, B.C., to the Diocese of New Westminster, who in turn gave it to the Japanese community and is now Holy Cross Japanese-Canadian Anglican Church. In 1989 the Parish of St. Peter’s Anglican Church arranged with Holy Cross to transfer their property at 4580 Walden Street in Vancouver, B.C., along with their existing St. Peter’s Memorial Garden where it sits today. On 15 May 2010, at the 109th Synod of the Diocese of New Westminster, in the presence of 16 members of the Japanese Canadian Anglican Community, Bishop Michael Ingham offered a formal apology for the Diocesan sale of two Japanese Canadian churches during and after WWII.

  • 1965-

The Right Reverend Godfrey P. Gower, Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster, formally established the parish of St, Laurence on May 16, 1963. The parish first met in the local health unit, but recognizing that the population in the area would likely double in the following ten years, the building committee decided to construct a facility that would provide space for worship, church school and parish activities. Members of the parish were active in the construction of the building, which was completed and the first services held in June 1965. The growing congregation saw the need for a larger building, and in 1987 plans began to build a new church. A very committed team of lay leaders met weekly for two years to incorporate the vision and desires of the parish. The original sanctuary would become a large parish hall and the new sanctuary would be built on an adjoining lot. With enthusiastic leadership and a vigorous stewardship campaign, the new building was consecrated on November 27, 1996.

Integrity Canada is a national network of local Integrity chapters, members, and friends working toward the full inclusion of gay and lesbian people in the life and ministry of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Integrity Vancouver is a local expression of the international gay and lesbian Christian movement supporting an inclusive Anglican church, a place of welcome for all people, particularly those who have been excluded or even shunned by the church because of their sexual orientation or gender identification.

In the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster (including metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and the Sunshine Coast), the Integrity community has been active for almost 30 years, providing a safe place for lesbian and gay Christians to worship and socialize, and calling our larger church family to live into our shared baptismal commitment to "respect the dignity of every human being."
